Here we are barely into a new NHL season. Summer is always a drag for me. Not only are there no games, but my local adult league shuts down for a couple months while the rink is closed. By this time of the year, I’m jonesing pretty hard for some action.
So I’m sitting here, writing this entry. I started out okay but I quickly found myself trying to write like a damn professional writer. I hold no belief that I am, and that’s really not what my goals are for this. I want an outlet for my voice as it pertains to my views on professional hockey.
I do have a biased view toward two teams (the Habs and the Penguins), but don’t we all as hockey fans? So why should I try to be impartial and neutral. Let my bias show. Do I think Montreal will win the Cup? Not likely, but I still want them to. Pittsburgh has a better shot, but we have to put last year behind us and grow as a team that hadn’t rally face adversity with Matt Murray in goal until last year.
There’s going to be a lot to watch across the league, sure. Having lived in San Jose, I’m totally interested in seeing how Erik Karlsson fits in and what that means for the Sharks’ closing Cup window. I want to see how the rest of the Canadian teams fare (yes, even the fucking Maple Leafs). It might be long seasons for Vancouver and Ottawa, and can Edmonton finally get over the hump to live up to their expectations?
All in all this kicks off my favorite time of year. The leaves are changing colors, everyone’s decorating for Halloween, and hockey’s back.
